Frequently-Asked Questions
What can I expect from therapy?
When you get in touch, we will schedule a complimentary 10-minute introductory phone call to discuss what brings you to treatment, fees and policies, and any questions you have.
Next, we’ll move into an assessment period in which we will discuss your goals and your personal history in order to make a treatment plan. For couples doing Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy, we will start with a joint introductory session, then complete individual assessment sessions with each partner, and finally return for a joint feedback session in which I’ll provide recommendations.
For those moving into the treatment phase, we will schedule weekly sessions of 45 minutes for individuals and 50 minutes for couples.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not participate in any insurance plans and I am considered an out-of-network provider. Payment is due at the time of service. Many health insurance plans offer substantial out-of-network benefits which will reimburse a portion of your treatment costs. I recommend checking with your insurance plan to learn more about your out-of-network benefits. I will provide you with itemized receipts (or “superbills”) so that you may submit a claim to your insurance company.
What is IBCT?
Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT) was developed by Andrew Christensen and the late Neil Jacobson after they realized that existing cognitive behavioral therapies for couples were insufficient to tackle the complexity and durability of most couples’ problems. IBCT combines the traditional cognitive-behavioral framework with an emphasis on empathy and understanding. For more information about IBCT and to learn about the theory behind the treatment, please see the book Rebuild Your Relationship by Rediscovering the Partner You Love--without Losing Yourself by Christensen, Doss, and Jacobson. You can also check out the official IBCT website here.
